Our technology story starts in Osnaburg Street in central London at the turn of the century. Richard, Spencer, and others whom I don't recollect worked tirelessly on churning out websites and 'multimedia' for big pharma campaigns.
This was a great team of bold and different creatives. No challenge was too big to take on. Back then there was no multi-stacked team writing microservices delivered via continuous pipelines, a product manager was a factory worker's title.
We wrote code on SMB shares, and archived them into dated folders. VB Script and access databases were the flavors of the day. Everything was much simpler, yet much harder. We hosted and managed everything in the men's toilet. Yes, the server racks running websites sponsored by large multinational organizations were located in an unused gents toilet in central London.
Pingdom didn't exist, we would check our websites constantly. Richard would regularly pull out his bag of tricks and we would get beautiful command-line automation scripts, which would do anything from backups to emergency failovers.
I tell you, fun times. The quality of the work back then was an inspiration, and with the speed that we were forced to deliver it was not a 9-5 job. I worked seven days a week. Fast forward 21 years, many technologies and products and freelancers have gone by, We mastered many platforms. We continue to be bold. We are now AWS developers made up of serverless API engineers, and front-end react developers, backed up by a multi-faceted team of designers, product managers, QA analysts, and DevOps engineers.
Everything is deployed via AWS and Azure. With our locations in Nairobi and London, we develop and maintain apps for our clients around the world. Living and learning in a country like Kenya is a magical experience, more about this and the abundance of talent in our upcoming story.
